Devotions Written for Seniors by Seniors

Would you like a weekly devotion on the sermon topic? Several senior writers are using their gifts in providing SeniorWalk for those who would like to go deeper into the week’s theme. These devotions, written from a senior’s persepective, include reflection questions to think about privately, to discuss with your spouse or in a group of friends. Senior adults from other congregations throughout the country are enjoying the use of SeniorWalk. Why not join them in using this exciting tool to help you grow deeper in your life as a disciple of Jesus Christ?

Do You Love to Knit and/or Crochet?

Volunteers from The Center for Vital Aging Ministries deliver prayer shawls for women and prayer scarves for men who are celebrating their 80+ years of life experience. They are also given to people of any age who are terminally ill. As the visitor wraps the shawl/scarf around the recipient, a special blessing is prayed.

A very easy knitted, as well as crocheted, prayer shawl pattern has been developed. It costs approximately $2.17 to make by using an 8 oz. skein of Red Heart Worsted-Weight Yarn from Wal-Mart, JoAnne’s, or Michael’s. The patterns for the prayer scarves are smaller versions of the prayer shawls.

You may drop off any completed shawls and scarves to Linda, administrative assistant to Vital Aging Ministries. Questions? Call Gloria at 952-898-9358.

Harmony Amish Tour

Saturday, October 13, 2007
Cost:   $44.00/person

7:45 a.m. Meet in the chapel at Prince of Peace
8:00 a.m. Board the motor coach
10:45 a.m. Arrive in Harmony, MN.  Most of the stores are open at 10:00.  If time permits, take a few minutes before or after lunch to shop in downtown Harmony and see Amish furniture, crafts, quilts, baskets and other goods.  Harmony’s Amish Community is the largest in Minnesota and is strictly “Old Order” Amish, meaning that the people are very private and have strong Christian convictions that bind their community together, enabling them to resist the ways of modern society.  They began their move to this area in 1974 and have grown to about 100 families with three church “districts” and seven one-room schools.
11:00 a.m.

Have an early lunch at The Harmony House Restaurant.  It is a small town Café with home cooked meals.  Menu:  Chicken dinner with potatoes, gravy, vegetable, coleslaw, beverage and dessert.

12:30 p.m A local guide will board the coach and escort the group into the countryside where the Amish have settled.  They are a living link with the past through the visible authentic lifestyle of the Amish.  These Amish have no cards, telephones, electricity or other modern conveniences.  Travel through the beautiful rolling countryside and you may see Amish farmers working the fields with horse teams or moving about in their black buggies.  Hear about their extraordinary way of life and their beliefs.  Notice the Amish way of dress and how children stroll home from school swinging their lunch baskets.  Stop at an Amish farm where you can purchase Amish made goods.
3:00 p.m. Leave Harmony
6:00 p.m. Estimated return to Prince of Peace.

Make check payable to Prince of Peace and send to:
