Each Small Group decides on the purpose and focus of its particular group. The four primary types of small groups are:
Providing support for people with a specific need or interest (i.e. Grief, 12 Steps, Chronic Pain, Divorce Recovery, Weigh Down Workshops, Alcoholics Anonymous, Depression, Job Connections, Cancer Support Group, Brain Injury Support Group, and Gamblers Anonymous).
Building relationships and getting to know people (i.e. book discussion, softball, cooking, golf, running, kayaking, and motorcycling).
Focusing on projects or work tasks (i.e. Mission Outpost food, clothing, furniture, Prison Ministry, Quilters, Prayer Shawl, Hospitality, Choir, Brass, Handbells, Flutes, Habitat for Humanity, and Audio/Video Technology Team).
Learning through Bible study as the primary agenda (i.e. Inductive Bible Studies, Topical Bible Studies, Space for God, Family Ministry birth - Grade 12, Edge, Young Adult Ministry, Ancient Words, Men's, Women's and Couples Bible Studies). |

First, begin by asking yourself...
WHO would I like to be in a group with? It is important to be in a group with people you like or with whom you share a common interest.
WHAT is my main interest in joining a small group? Is it Bible study? Getting connected to other families with children? Serving meals at a soup kitchen? Getting spiritual or personal support?
WHEN do I have time to meet? What am I willing to rearrange in my schedule to meet with the Small Group? How often would I like to meet? Different groups meet at different times (early morning, afternoons, evenings or weekends). |
