Parent nights: These evenings are about educating parents on the world of their teenagers and helping to equip them in being able to talk with their teenager about what trials or dangers are in their path. This past year we had parent nights with the topics of suicide/depression, drugs and alcohol and sex. These evenings have the purpose of opening up healthy discussion between parents and students. The 2006-07 school year we are looking at having speakers in to discuss the dangers of the internet and what teens are into there and as well on the topic of cutting or self-injury. Keep checking the website for the upcoming dates of those evenings.
Parents groups: We offer two parenting groups throughout the year for the purpose of supporting and encouraging parents in their important task of raising teens as disciples of Christ. These parent groups meet on Wednesdays evenings and Sunday mornings at Prince of Peace. We are open to additional parent support groups starting up, so if you are interested in launching another group please contact Georgia Ridgway at 952-898-9387.
Scholarships: Many parents ask what they can do if they can’t afford a trip for a student. The answer is we can do a few things, one we can always work out a payment plan, we understand that life itself is expensive and that sometimes it gets a little tight. Feel free to let us know what you need and we will work with you the best we can! As far as scholarships we work really hard to help with up to at least half the cost of the trip when it is needed. The exceptions land with international travel, we are just not able to scholarship those trips but do provide fundraisers for that.
Getting involved: Many parents chose to be a small group leader for Wednesday nights, however that isn’t all you can do, if you would like to be more active in the Senior high program we can find a space for you! We always need parents to help with events, be it setting up for the event, helping with shopping before hand, driving, lead a leadership team (currently we are looking for people to help lead the prayer, art and hospitality teams), we need parents to pray for us while we are on our trips and for our students daily, we need people that are gifted in video and would like to take a team of students to the next level with creating videos for Wednesday night youth group.
We are always looking for people who are willing to allow us to use their homes for bible studies on evenings outside of Wednesday nights, pools, homes on lakes for waterskiing days and so much more. Perhaps it is on your heart to help give to the scholarship fund so that other students can attend trips. All these are amazing ways of loving kids and serving God. Let us know how you would like to get involved! Contact Georgia Ridgway at 952-898-9387.
