What is Affirmation of Baptism?
In the Lutheran church, people of all ages are baptized, however, we most often baptize infants. This is a beautiful picture of God’s extravagant grace that reaches out to us: names us, claims us and makes us God’s own children in the global family of faith. In infant baptism, parents and sponsors (Godparents) promise to raise their children in the Christian faith. Affirmation of Baptism is the student’s opportunity and privilege to take on those promises made at their baptism, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, live them in their daily lives. In order to equip students to make these promises there are certain things that a student needs to Know, Do, and Be.
Who can participate in Affirmation of Baptism?
Anyone who is in grades 9 through 12 may participate.
When is it offered?
Each year there are two sessions offered. They each consist of 10 classes, memory verses, worship notes and a faith talk. Each session culminates in a celebration with the entire Prince of Peace community in weekend worship.
